  • Best outdoor activities in South Boston

    Southie Parks/Playgrounds M St/Medal of Honor Park (East side) - has a splash pad for hot days! Marine Park (East side) Moakley Park Buckley Park (West side) Sweeney Park Seaport Parks/Playgrounds A St Park Martin's Park (right by the Boston Children's Museum!) Harborwalk Playground Castle Island is great to walk in warmer months. You can stop at Pleasure Bay to enjoy the beach along the way, get a bite at Sullivan's, and enjoy the playground (right by Sullivan's). The Curley Community Center has an outdoor playground, outdoor area with picnic tables, and a family beach. Membership is free for Boston residents but you have to register online. Learn more here! Southie has plenty of beaches to enjoy in addition to Pleasure Bay: M St Beach (more family-friendly/less rowdy if you set up closer to the Yacht Clubs) Carson Beach (has a cafe for food/drinks) If you want to venture out of South Boston: The Franklin Park Zoo is about a 15-20 minute drive and in addition to seeing the animals, they have a great outdoor playground and large grass area.   • Best indoor activities in South Boston

    Boston Children's Museum membership is incredible! For ~$200/year (or more if you have more family members) you can enjoy unlimited access to the Children's Museum which as an infant/toddler playspace, and tons of other exhibits appealing to young and older children. See info here! The best way to get there from Southie is on the 7 or 11 buses. The new Curley Community Center is free to all Boston residents although you need to sign up online. They have an indoor toddler playroom and children's room that is open 9am-7pm most weekdays and 9am-3pm Saturday and Sunday currently. Learn more here! South Boston Boys and Girls Club hosts toddler time most Tuesdays and Thursdays (excl. holidays and some school vacations) from 9-11am. Rock Spot Climbing has toddler time (3 and under) most Saturdays at 8am where they put out some toys like hula hoops, tunnels, etc. and allow children to run around their space. More info here! Seaport Smalls is a free children's event every Saturday that is indoors during the winter with a rotating agenda of music and performances. Learn more here! If you want to venture outside of South Boston, The Little Lovage Club in Prudential Center is great for children up to about 5. They have a dedicated infant area as well. You can easily take the 9 bus from Southie or they validate parking for a discounted rate! Allo in Charlestown has a playspace tailored towards toddlers or young children (no dedicated space for infants) and they also have an area for art classes . Minni in South End or Beacon Hill has art classes and workshops. The South End location is easily accessible from South Boston by taking the 11 or 9 bus, or parking at Sowa.
